Equivalency metrics (e.g., global warming potential) are widely used to quantify the impacts of greenhouse gas emissions, energy technologies, and other variables. However, several questions exist regarding the design and performance of these metrics. In this paper, we examine the consequences of metric design decisions and identify key choices that more effectively mitigate climate change.
